Over 1.1 million homes and businesses in the U.S. Southeast and Midwest are still without power following Hurricane Helene’s impact on the Florida Panhandle. The number of outages has decreased from 1.7 million on Tuesday as utility companies work to restore power. The storm caused service disruptions to approximately 5.5 million customers, mostly in the Southeast region. Helene resulted in over 160 fatalities due to its strong winds, rain, and storm surge.
Duke Energy, a major U.S. energy company, is facing the highest number of outages in the Carolinas, with around 287,732 customers without power in South Carolina and 234,375 in North Carolina. Duke Energy has already restored power to 1.6 million customers in the Carolinas and expects to address the remaining outages by Friday night.

– North Carolina: 317,551
– Virginia: 30,238
– Florida: 29,765
– West Virginia: 7,163
The total number of outages currently stands at 1,103,292.
