France’s new government: Key ministers in the line-up

French President Emmanuel Macron’s office has announced the new cabinet under Prime Minister Michel Barnier, revealing key ministerial appointments:

– Antoine Armand, 33, has been chosen as the Finance Minister. A newcomer to politics, he graduated from the prestigious Ecole Nationale d’Administration and will oversee economic and finance matters.

– Bruno Retailleau, a 63-year-old conservative senator, is now the Interior Minister. Known for his hard-right views, he has been vocal on issues such as immigration and policing.

– Jean-Noel Barrot, promoted to Foreign Minister, comes from a family with a strong political background. He provides a balance for the government, representing the centrist party needed for Macron’s support.

– Benjamin Haddad, 38, has been appointed as the Europe Minister. Fluent in English with strong ties to Washington, DC, he has been active in diplomatic matters, particularly regarding the war in Ukraine.

– Sebastien Lecornu, a Macron loyalist, continues as the Defence Minister. A low-profile figure, he initially started his career in conservative ranks before joining Macron’s government in 2017.
