The Federal Aviation Administration has granted a license for the launch of SpaceX’s Starship 5 on Sunday, ahead of the previously expected timeline. SpaceX is aiming for a Sunday launch with a 30-minute window starting at 7:00 a.m. CT. The FAA confirmed that SpaceX has met all safety and environmental requirements for the upcoming test flight of the Starship 5 and approved the mission profile for the Starship 6. The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket are designed for crew and cargo missions to Earth orbit, the Moon, and beyond. The upcoming test flight will include a return of the Super Heavy booster rocket to the launch site and a water landing of the Starship vehicle in the Indian Ocean. SpaceX has been given the option for an uncontrolled entry with prior communication to the FAA. In a separate development, the FAA has approved the return to flight of the SpaceX Falcon 9 after a review of the investigation findings from a previous mishap. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been critical of the FAA for delays in licensing and has threatened legal action against the agency.
