Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has decided to skip the BRICS summit in Russia after sustaining a head injury at home that led to a minor brain hemorrhage. Instead, Lula, 78, will participate in the summit via videoconference. Following a fall that caused trauma to the back of his head, Lula’s doctor advised him to avoid long-haul flights. Despite the injury, Lula is reportedly doing well and can carry out his regular duties. Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will now lead the Brazilian delegation at the summit. The BRICS summit, which includes major emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, marks its 15th anniversary this year. Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann confirmed that Lula is in good condition and is simply avoiding long trips.
