The U.S. government plans to unveil a preliminary list of generic drugs for Medicare recipients priced at a maximum of $2, as reported by Axios. These drugs will not be subject to prior authorization or quantity limits. The initial list of 101 generic drugs will include commonly prescribed medications such as penicillin, metformin, lithium, and albuterol asthma inhalers. It will also cover medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other chronic conditions. The program is set to launch in January 2027. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have not yet commented on the report.
